CRC Google Earth Tour

This Google Earth Tour was created as opposition media to the Columbia River Crossing highway widening project proposed for the Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington region. It briefly explains what the current issues are, shows why the CRC proposal isn’t the right one for this region, and illustrates a few alternatives.
Something definitely needs to be done in the region, but we don’t need a throwback to 1950’s era highway building, there are alternatives.
The tour presents the phased alternatives from the SmarterBridge.org site, which I feel are better than the CRC, but I’m not necessarily convinced they are the best options. Other ideas are floating around too: Alternate Concept .
To play the file, you will need Google Earth 5.0. The first time you play it, Google Earth will be downloading the satellite and terrain data. The second time through should play better once the geography data has been loaded. This will probably not perform well on older computers.

Once I got Google Earth to cooperate, this was really interesting and well presented.
Unfortunately the 5 or 6 people I have shared it with have had the hardest time getting it to work. Most of them struggle just using email much less navigating Google Earth’s interface which is pretty unfriendly. All of them just gave up after trying for 20-minutes.
Any chance you can export these out of Google Earth to a video format and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo or something? It would really help spread the ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion. Google Earth pro has built in features for exporting to video. Unfortunately I’m using the free version, which doesn’t support exporting. I’m looking at alternatives, and for now the best way to display is to use the web page plugin version.

Just one thing to point out: you don´t need to have Google Earth installed to use the browser GE plugin. Just installed the plugin and that´s it.

I had no problem downloading the plug-in and running it embedded. I am using a Windows 7, dualcore Toshiba laptop a few years old.
I live in Portland and have been trying to understand the issues surrounding plans for the new bridge. This presentation clarified the issues and the merits of an alternative approach.
